Like Jim in The Story of the Seeds, Mark Hendricks exemplifies integrity, honesty, trust, courage, and every other incredible quality you could possibly look for in a leader.  Thank goodness I joined his Internet Success System – ISS group in October, 2010… and I’m here to tell you that I have NEVER had a regret… in fact, it just keeps getting better and better!

 

I quickly realized what a “gem” I had discovered and upgraded to his Gold Level.  Then I was placed in a Mastermind Group for beginners like me!… it’s awesome to work with good, honest and caring people.  Kudos to all you guys and gals who have held my hand and walked me through the maze…  Mark, Jonathan, Joe, Chris, Karon, Debbie… THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

Why Is Slightly Alkaline Blood Important?

You have optimum health when you have slightly alkaline blood. Your pH is a scale that measures how acidic or alkaline the blood is and how much oxygen your blood can absorb.  The pH scale ranges from 1 to 14 with the low side being acidic and the higher numbers being alkaline.

If your blood pH is too low or too high on the scale, it would change the electrical chemistry, and that can lead to serious help issues or death.  Maintaining slightly alkaline blood is critical to your health!

The blood stream is one of the most important systems in the body that depends on this delicate process.


Oxygen is transported in the blood to all body tissues by red blood cells that move single file through tiny capillaries.


The outside of healthy red blood cells have a negative charge that allows them to be separated or resist each other.  Acidity in the blood interferes with this process by stripping away the negative charge …that can lead to the clumping together of the red blood cells… and making it more difficult, if not impossible, for them to pass through the bloodstream, especially through the small capillaries.


Your cells are then deprived of oxygen, the acid weakens the red blood cells, then they begin to die and start releasing more acid into your body!  You need stomach acid to properly digest your food, but all other acidity in the body can be serious to your health.  Energy levels can drop significantly and red blood cells are challenged to deliver oxygen and nutrients easily to the cells.


Dis-ease sets in when your body is acidic (acidosis) heart problems, candida overgrowth as well as a multitude of other health challenges.  This is why it is so important to have slightly alkaline blood.  If the pH is out of balance to the extreme either way, you can suffer from fatigue, poor digestion, joint and muscle pain and weight issues.

 

 

The 80/20 Rule

 

If you truly want incredible energy and excellent health, follow the 80% alkaline and 20% acidic diet to maintain slightly alkaline blood.

 

 

The most common culprits for creating acidosis are poor diet, poor digestion, coffee, tea, soda, milk products (excluding butter) and stress.  Minerals are typically depleted in acidic foods while alkaline foods are most often rich in minerals.

 

Gradually increasing your alkalizing foods and drinks while decreasing acid forming products and stress, can certainly put you on the right path to improving your blood pH.

 

Most nutrition stores will have pH Test Strips that can be used as a tool to get a baseline. Dr. Baroody in his book, Alkalize or Die, does not recommend this as an absolute measure of whether the “overall” body is too alkaline or acidic, but it can be useful in monitoring your improvements as you become slightly alkaline, blood becomes healthier, and your energy skyrockets!

MSG – Dangers, Where It Is Hidden In Your Food and The Benefits of Avoiding It!

 

We all want our food to taste good, but not at the expense of damaging our health. Unfortunately, much of the food on the market today contains mono-sodium glutamate (MSG).  This flavor enhancer can be found in soups, processed meats, yogurt, bread, canned tuna, salad dressings…and the list goes on and on!

 

Artificial flavorings can do irreversible damage to the body, and it is more important than ever for each of us to learn how to avoid these so we can help ourselves and our families to maintain better health!

 

Mono-sodium glutamate (MSG) is a widely used flavor enhancer and originates naturally from seaweeds, sugar beets, and soybeans. It is ironic that such a chemical, which enhances flavors in other food, has no flavor of its own. It is synthetically produced into a white, crystalline powder and can be added in packaged products and culinary additives.

 

The Japanese were the first users of flavor enhancers. They were particularly fond of the seaweed until 1908, when Kikunae Ikeda recognized the potential of glutamic acid. Soon, mono-sodium glutamate was produced by fermenting the glutamic acid until the MSG is extracted.

 

Truthinlabeling.org has been very active in their quest to discourage people from using synthetic flavoring in cooking and preparing food. Their website is very informative as to why it would be beneficial to abandon the use of mono-sodium glutamate altogether. If you do, you lower your chances of suffering the health effects attributed to MSG.

 

The health hazards attributed to this substance, especially to those who are allergic, are quite serious.  Chest pain, facial pressure, burning sensations, heart palpitations, numbness, sweating, headache, and other health issues are known to be linked to consumption of MSG.  Those with asthma can be sensitive to glutamates and may experience such symptoms upon ingestion of food laced with the substance.  These symptoms are also compiled to be known as Chinese Restaurant Syndrome.  Other experiments and studies also show that high dosage of mono-sodium glutamate also contains life-threatening amino acid that is a neurotoxin.

 

The toxic possibility of mono-sodium glutamate was first recorded in 1968, where Dr. Robert Ho Man Kwok suffered numbness, tightness in the chest, and tingling after eating in Chinese restaurants. By then, Chinese restaurants were premier users of MSG. The term Chinese restaurant syndrome is used to describe chest pain, facial pressure, burning sensations, heart palpitations, numbness, sweating, headache, and other health issues are known to be linked to consumption of MSG.

 

In 1969, Dr. John Olney had determined that MSG produced neuroendocrine disorders and brain lesions in mice that were fed and exposed to mono-sodium glutamate.  Many studies since then have termed MSG as a neurotoxin and an excitotoxin.

Even though a product is labeled “No MSG”, it is not reliable enough when the product contains any of the numerous equivalents. If you make the healthy choice to avoid foods with MSG, you should familiarize yourself with the terms in the chart. They are all, more or less, derivatives and other terms of MSG used to hide the presence of mono-sodium glutamate in products.  Manufacturing companies seem to be continuously using other terms or adding a similar chemical.

Flavors in food can be enhanced naturally by adding herbs, spices, lemon juice, nuts and seeds.  This way, you get to experience the real flavors and benefits of the healthy nutritional food. There is really no need for food additives that may prove to be poison in the future. When you avoid these additives and start enjoying your food prepared in a more natural way, you, most likely, will see a tremendous improvement in your health.

Plants Used As Living Air Purifiers – NASA Study

Dr. Bill Wolverton, formerly a Senior Research Scientist at NASA’s John C. Stennis Space Center, did research into the use of common indoor plants for indoor air purification.

Based on this study, NASA and the Associated Landscape Contractors of American (ALCA) completed a two year study that suggest these plants provide a natural way of combating sick building syndrome where concentrated toxins are making people feel sick.

The most common symptoms of sick building syndrome are burning eyes and respiratory difficulties from out-gassing of volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) which spreads the VOC’s such as formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene, all known irritants and potential carcinogens.  These plants are so effective at absorbing contaminants that they will be part of the biological support system on future space stations.

Wolverton stated “We feel that future results will provide an even stronger argument that common indoor landscaping plants can be a very effective part of a system to provide pollution free homes and work places.”

He published a NASA report in l989 stating, “If man is to move into closed environments, on Earth or in space, he must take along nature’s life support system.”  Plants.

NASA recommends a six inch plant for every 100 square feet of living space.

How To Clean Naturally For A Healthier Home

Many years ago I was wallpapering my dining room and Dad was so upset with me and telling me how the wallpaper is loaded with formaldehyde and how bad it is for your health!


My intention at that time was to have the dining room looking great, and I didn’t really want a lesson in toxic chemicals so I just smiled and said, “Thanks Dad…I’ll check it out.”  But of course, I kept wallpapering.

Eliminate Toxins In The Home For A Healthier Life!

By the next day I was miserable…my head pounded, my lungs were congested and my throat hurt.  I thought of what Dad had said and truly wished I had listened and stopped this project.  If we hadn’t had this conversation, I might never have realized why I got so sick…I would have just thought I got a bad cold.


Well not much time went by after the wallpapering episode that Dad buys me some books to read about toxins in the home.  Together we make quite a pair, and I’m very thankful for the influence he has had on my life and health!


I was overwhelmed by the information he gave me…shocked and saddened.  We all think we are being protected in some magical way from this toxic world, but the truth is that we are being bombarded with chemicals.


Products we use every day in the home are having a major negative impact on our bodies and most people are oblivious to the dangers of exposure to them and their children!


Those who do “wake up to the possibility of toxic overload” can often become overwhelmed, but I want to encourage you to take one step at a time because you will be so much healthier…you owe it to yourself and your family to provide a clean, toxin free environment…it is well worth the effort!


Here’s some easy things you can do right now to start having a cleaner, healthier home and a healthier body:


Eliminate candles, perfumes, colognes and air fresheners that are loaded with synthetic fragrances, paraffin and petroleum bi-products. These products are highly toxic to the body!  You can substitute with several drops of essential oil in a spray bottle filled with water to naturally give your home a pleasant scent.  I prefer sage, lemon or peppermint but it’s important to find an essential oil that works for you as you could be very sensitive to certain oils.  Also, you can add a touch of atmosphere with battery operated tea lights for those special occasions; and if you must have candles, you can try 100% pure beeswax candles.



Get rid of the toxic cleaners including window cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners, dish washing detergent, furniture polish, laundry detergent, and dryer sheets and substitute with organic products or make your own. (It’s really easy and saves a lot of money.)

It feels good to keep things simple and inexpensive…here’s a great little list of cleaning products:

Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate) packs a great punch for deodorizing, cleaning, laundry booster and water conditioner.

Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) can be mixed with water to disinfect practically everything in your home.  It’s inexpensive, last a long time and is very effective.

 

Salt is great for scouring …abrasive but mild.

 

Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds is excellent for cleaning the bathtub, shower, toilet, washing dishes, floors and laundry.

Lemon juice can be used to remove grease and stains and is also a natural whitener.

 

For the laundry, there’s Borax, Seventh Generation, Soap Nuts, Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds, and one of my favorites is Sun & Earth (www.sunandearth.com)

 

White Vinegar is another good general cleanser…not just for windows… but you can also remove mildew, shine up those metal surfaces, remove stains and grease, and you can add it to your rinse cycle to soften your clothes…and NO, it won’t smell bad!

Becoming aware of what you
are using is the first step
to having healthier home!

Cornstarch can be used for general cleaning by mixing 2 quarts of warm water with a half cup of cornstarch.  It’s also amazing for absorbing grease – just sprinkle, let it absorb and wipe…also good for cleaning rugs and carpet.  How easy is that!


Washing Soda is a salt (sodium carbonate) and can remove stains, soften water, use for general cleaning or to make your own laundry detergent.  It’s sometimes hard to find so look in the detergent isle for Arm & Hammer Washing Soda (not the same as baking soda).


Micro fiber cloths work great for dusting…just mist it lightly with water and dust away.


Everything you put on your skin, spray or use in your home is absorbed into your body.  Becoming aware of what you’re using is the first step to understanding how toxic your environment is.


But remember, don’t get overwhelmed…just start taking action to have a healthier home!
