Olive oil is one of nature’s most perfect foods with many nutritional benefits.   Olives are harvested from some of the most beautiful areas of the Mediterranean in the fall and the olive oil is available in many grades.

Olive oil is well known for it's health benefits.

Olives contain many vitamins and antioxidants. Olive oil is well known for its health benefits and has a long list of polyphenols that occur naturally in plants.   These polyphenols are antioxidant and anti-inflammatory to the body.  Extra virgin olive oil has the highest concentration of the healing polyphenols and are easily digested.


Hydroxytyrosol is an extremely rare polyphenol found in olive oil.  It is believed to be one of the most powerful antioxidants, coming in second to gallic acid.  Research has shown it to be ten times greater than green tea and two time greater than CoQ10 in providing an all-natural approach to free-radical damage.  It is highly potent and very beneficial in slowing down the aging process.  The synergy effect with other olive phenols is important as research continues.


Anti-inflammatory properties are rarely found in a fat. Olive oil is made up of fat calories, but the fat is monounsaturated, which is considered a healthy fat. Many other types of fat can cause the body to increase production of molecules which trigger inflammatory responses. Olive oil has been shown to considerably decrease the production of these molecules when consumed on a regular basis. For the average person, this means that changing from butter to olive oil within their diet can aid in lowering joint swelling and pain from diseases like arthritis.

This is attributed to the large quantities of polyphenols in olive oil, especially the purest forms of the oil. Olive oil is helpful in protecting the body’s very structure or DNA from oxidative stress. Calcium is also more readily absorbed by the human body when olive oil is present in the diet. This absorption helps to create stronger bones and teeth.


Olive oil and its relationship in curing cancer is worthy of exploration. Studies of breast cancer patients have recently shown a decrease in the replication of breast cancer cells when olive oil is present in the diet. This study shows similar results with other forms of cancer. From a scientific view, these results could be a breakthrough in the treatment of cancer patients. If changes in diet can help to reverse the effects of cancer, then these same changes should change many other diseases, as well.


Longer lives and healthier brains are thought to come from olive oil. Gluten is a protein that is found in many wheat products and flours, as well as rye and barley.  It is a sticky substance which binds your food together.  Some experts believe as many as 1 in 20 Americans may have some form of gluten-intolerance.


If you have a wheat allergy and consume these products, gluten upsets your intestines and causes your immune system to respond.  This response causes symptoms such as abdominal discomfort, gas and bloating and could cause other symptoms as shown below.  These symptom can appear even in people who don’t have celiac disease.


What is Celiac Disease?

Celiac Disease is a digestive disease that causes permanent damage to the small intestine. This interferes with absorbing certain nutrients, such as iron, calcium and vitamin D, which can create gastrointestinal problems as well as osteoporosis and anemia.  People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten.


Symptoms of Gluten-Intolerance:

People who have problems processing gluten can suffer from bloating, headaches, heart burn and stomach cramps just to name a few.  The chart below shows many symptoms of gluten-intolerance.

The other choice (which I highly recommend) is to start eliminating gluten from your life.  I say “life” because gluten seems to be everywhere these days.  It’s in millions of products!  It’s critical to start reading labels for everything you ingest or put on your skin.  Although gluten is mainly in foods, it may also be found in products that you use every day. I’ve even seen gluten in a vitamins!

There are many products on the market that claim to have the answer to healthy skin.  The majority of these products contain many harmful chemicals and others are too expensive for the average person to afford.


Fortunately, creating healthy skin doesn’t require the help of commercially marketed products. There are many at-home tips and tricks available to get the desired results from your skin.


You may be pleasantly surprised at how easy, effective, and inexpensive some of these tips are.  When you save money, then you can justify buying organic food to improve your skin from the inside out.  I just had to slide that in since our diet plays such a major part in how our skin looks.

Try these tips for healthy glowing skin the easy, at-home way:


Create natural masks – There are many elements in nature that can help give your skin the healthy look you want. Some of those items may already be in your kitchen or garden! If you want healthy, glowing skin, here are some ideas for making natural facial masks:


  • Prepare regular oatmeal (not instant – preferably organic), let it cool, and then apply it to your face for about 30 minutes. Once you rinse it off and dry your face, you’ll instantly feel the benefits of the exfoliating properties of natural oatmeal.


  • Crack open an egg, discard the yolk, and briskly beat the white until just before it forms soft peaks. Then, apply it to your face for 30-45 minutes. While it’s on your skin, you’ll feel your skin start to tighten.  When finished, spritz the egg white with water and remove with cool water  on a cotton ball. Using an egg mask once a week will give you healthier looking skin and is wonderful for crow’s feet.


  • Raw Aloe Vera is another great option for creating a homemade mask. Simply rub the gel onto your face and let it stand for about half an hour.   Aloe Vera is good at removing blemishes and cleansing the skin of impurities.

Use a daily facial wash – A daily face wash made from 1/2-cup cold milk (yogurt if your skin is dry), 1 tablespoon of salt, and 2 tablespoons of witch hazel will ensure your face is moisturized and cleansed of bacteria, grease, and impurities that can contribute to unhealthy skin, pimples and blemishes.


Puffy Baggy Eye Treatment – Most of us have heard that cucumbers help those puffy eyes.  Several thin slices over each eye while you are lying down relaxing can make a major difference in your appearance.  But did you know that raw potato skins (preferably organic) help tighten puffy baggy eyes also?  Try it!  Do the same as with the cucumbers and rejuvenate your eyes!


Lip Wrinkles – Mash up 1/4 cup of papaya and generously apply to lips and surrounding areas or use 1/4 cup of papaya juice and apply with cotton balls. Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse with cool water.


Use clean linens – Your hygiene habits can determine how healthy your facial skin will become. It’s important to always use clean linens. Face cloths and pillowcases that are exposed to your skin need to be free of bacteria so the germs aren’t transferred to the face.  It’s beneficial to change pillowcases and face cloths at least twice a week.


These are easy tips that can give you the skin you want without breaking the bank.  And you just may see results faster than with products found on the market, and you will be avoiding dangerous chemicals!  Try these techniques today and enjoy that healthy, glowing skin you’ve been seeking.
